Merry Christmas Eve! The reason for the season is Jesus so I want to discuss Jesus. The celebration of the birth of Christ is a truly glorious time. Celebrating his birth always brings me closer to him. The joy and hope Christ provides are abundantly there.
God gives us two stories of the same event. Jesus’ birth story is told in Matthew 1–2 and Luke 1–2. That always makes me smile because God created us knowing that we need it to be told twice, in two different ways, from two different perspectives, with different messages.
As we walk through our lives, the two stories seem to touch us in different ways, both pulling us closer to the Lord. God is so good to give us what we need in such a kind and gentle fashion.
He did not just give us soft and kind stories, He gave us his only Son in the form of man, arriving as a baby. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit which started his human life with more complications than we can ever realize. And it was all done for us, to wash away OUR sins.
Through the complications, there was joy, so much so that the troubles seemed to fade into the night sky. That night sky brings other treasures to our lives still today. We now have Jesus who always was and will always be.
Through our troubles with chronic illness and the hurts of trauma and other great losses, my hope is that we can all see the joy and the hope that God gave us in Jesus Christ.
